I'm a third year Fine Arts and Art History major in the college of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati. I haven't posted anything in AGES, but I will have new, and MUCH BETTER stuff up by the end of the 2011 Fall quarter; if not before then. My main focus is in Ceramics, but I greatly enjoy printmaking, painting, and drawing (mostly doodles, not things I would try impress anyone with).
Although I clicked the "I am an Artist" box, I do not label myself as one yet. I believe that I currently should only consider myself as an Art Student. I'm in art school to perfect my craft so I can most accurately translate the images in my mind into reality. Once I can do that I will consider myself a true artist. Until then I consider what I do to mostly be mental gymnastics, but sometimes true artwork.
I have a lot of different inspiration. I love the concepts of 17th c. Dutch Baroque art-- painting debauchery in order to tell people to be more pious. My obsession is more with finding out if the artist was just a religious prick, or they secretly were just as wild as some of their paintings. My favorite is Malle Babbe painted by Frans Hals. I obsess about the mind, the brain, the body, the microscopic worlds all around us we can't see, neurological disorders, etc.
My favorite neurological disorder is Synesthesia. I'm pretty sure my friends are going to kill me the next time I bring it up in conversation. Synesthesia is when your brain works so that one stimuli will trigger more than one sensation. (Ie: tasting words) I see graphemes, phomemes, other sounds (music, general sounds, etc), and touch as colors and shapes. I feel sound as temperature changes, and sound also always is accompanied by smells. I've been a part of a couple university studies. My art reflects a lot of these anomalies in my reality.
SO yeah, I likes arts n stuff. So I'll probably wanna check your stuff out if you'd like me to! =D
